Holly crap, a plane just crashed in my Dropzone in Portugal. According to early reports in Portuguese news sites, the pilot owner was behind the controls - along with the co-pilot, when the airplane crashed against a house in a neighborhood in Evora.
The airplane had just dropped off the skydivers that were on board and, when approaching the runway with excessive velocity (apparently after one of the engines failed) prepared the 180 turn to land in the opposite direction. That was when it lost altitude and crashed against a house that was empty at the time.
There is still some confusion on whether both pilot and co-pilot died and also whether a third passenger jumped out with a parachute moments before the impact. I will update this when I know more.
My condolences to the families of the people that lost their life today :(
UPDATE: One of the deceased is the owner of the airplane and the dropzone's skydiving operation, Eddy Resende. The second victim has been identified as Joao Silva. The plane lost one of its engines around 9000 feet, altitude at which all the skydivers jumped out. Joao stayed behind to help Eddy land the damaged airplane.
