Weekly findings on the internets - edition first

Here's the first edition of my weekly findings on the internets.

Every Friday i'm going to write a post with cool stuff that i found during that week unless something more important comes up, like a really really good TV show or movie - or if i get abducted by aliens.

Kind of like a summary, but completely different.

So without further delay, the findings for this week:

Youtube opens up HTML5 video - You can try it if you are using Google Chrome. No luck if on IE or Firefox. The latter did release version 3.6 with full HTML5 support, but apparently youtube doesn't know that. UPDATE: It seems that vimeo also introduced this feature. Look for the link to switch to HTML 5 player on any video's page. Cool new web site uptime monitor (free) - I was later shown another one (thanks Nick) which is more web 2.0esque, though they both do the same: Send you an email when your website is down. Nokia launches free turn by turn navigation on ovi maps - Can this be the death of personal GPS makers? Mouse tracking and image generator - This is pretty cool. It's the showoff picture of an application that tracks the movement (and pauses) of your mouse pointer and creates a picture out of it. The links are in the comments of the flickr photo, but you can get it here. For windows or mac (or anything that has java, i guess). OnLive - If you never heard of OnLive, now you have. This service will allow you to play any computer game on any machine that has an internet connection and the ability to decode normal video. It's basically rendering the game in the cloud and it will most definitely kill traditional video game delivery as we know it. The gory details can be found on those 5 video parts. Omegle - This is a service that allows you to randomly meet people and chat (IRC style) with them. Really?!? Leather jackets - Some really cool leather jackets. They also have replicas of movie jackets :) Gigantic crystals cave - An incredible cave in Mexico that has the most astonishing (and big!) crystals in the world. Sikuli - One of the coolest applications i have seen lately. It basically allows you to script (or test) actions based on screenshots. Do you know selenium, the tool that can be used to unit test graphical user interfaces? This is better! Redesigning the STOP sign - Imagine if the STOP sign in our roads would have been created by a corporation somewhere. EMP gun that can kill a car's engine - No more speed chases. Soon the police will be able to shut down any vehicle's engine with this high current gun. As soon as it can fit in a police car, that is. What the Apple tablet might look like - Self-explanatory: Rumors, rumors :)
